Daniel Bwala, Presidential Spokesperson on Policy Communication for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has accused Al Jazeera of selectively editing his recent interview, saying the cuts misrepresented his statements and contributed to misinformation circulating on social media.
The interview, Head to Head with Daniel Bwala, conducted by Al Jazeera journalist Mehdi Hasan, attracted widespread criticism from Nigerians, with many describing Bwala’s appearance as embarrassing.
Speaking about the controversy, Bwala said, “A key fact was misrepresented, and this has fueled numerous opinions online, amplified by Al Jazeera. I have asked them to clarify the record.”
He added that the interview, which took place on February 11, 2026, was originally scheduled to last one hour and 20 minutes. “The session was conducted properly. All questions were answered, and I did not deny anything,” he explained.

Bwala alleged that when Al Jazeera uploaded the interview online on March 5, only 49 minutes were included, leaving out nearly 20 minutes of content.
“They then released an 8-minute version that stitched and cut sections in a way that highlighted certain points while omitting important context,” he said.
He further noted that the network had initially promised to air the full interview on television before posting it online.
“They claimed that trending issues involving Israel, Iran, and the U.S. affected the broadcast, but they still uploaded the edited version on YouTube,” Bwala said.
He stressed that the complete interview should be made available to ensure proper context. “Publishing the full video is crucial,” he added.
