Nigeria’s presidency has pushed back against claims that the country is poor, insisting Africa’s largest economy remains rich in resources, talent, and economic potential despite rising hardship and public frustration.
The statement has sparked debate across the country, where many citizens continue to face inflation, unemployment, and a high cost of living. Officials argue that Nigeria’s wealth should not be measured only by current economic struggles, pointing to oil reserves, agriculture, minerals, and a large youthful population.
Critics, however, say the real issue is not whether Nigeria has wealth, but why millions still live in poverty while the nation remains resource-rich.
