West African telecommunications regulators have launched a fresh drive for stronger regional cooperation at a major summit in Lomé, in a move that could reshape the region’s digital future and expand internet access for millions.
Officials from across the sub-region met to discuss joint action on broadband expansion, cross-border connectivity, cybersecurity, and investment strategies aimed at closing the digital divide.
The renewed alliance comes as Africa’s digital economy gains global attention, with West Africa seen as a key growth frontier for technology, innovation, and mobile connectivity.
Observers say stronger coordination among telecom regulators could lower costs, improve service quality, and attract billions in new investment.
The Lomé summit is now being viewed as a turning point in West Africa’s race to build a modern, competitive, and globally connected digital economy.
