President John Mahama has stepped forward to calm growing public anxiety over recent and scheduled electricity interruptions, firmly stating that Ghana is not sliding back into the infamous “dumsor” era of widespread and unpredictable blackouts.
Speaking amid rising concern from households and businesses, the presidency clarified that the current power disruptions are planned and strategic outages, not evidence of an energy collapse.
Authorities explained that the measures are part of ongoing technical maintenance, grid stabilization, and infrastructure upgrades intended to strengthen long-term electricity reliability.
President Mahama reassured citizens that the energy system remains stable and under active management, emphasizing that government is prioritizing transparency to avoid misinformation and panic.

He noted that Ghana has learned hard lessons from past energy crises and is determined to prevent a repeat of nationwide power instability.
Energy officials reinforced the explanation, stressing that the outages are carefully scheduled and not random, urging the public to follow official announcements and cooperate with grid management efforts.
However, reactions across the country remain divided. While some citizens welcome the government’s communication and assurances, others continue to express frustration over the economic and social disruptions caused by intermittent power supply, particularly for small businesses and essential services.
The government maintains that ongoing reforms in the power sector, along with infrastructure investments, are designed to ensure a more stable and resilient electricity supply in the coming months, distancing the country from any fears of a return to chronic blackouts.
